Getting in
The sign-in email hasn't arrived
Give it a couple of minutes, then check your spam folder — sign-in links are a common false positive.
Still nothing? The address may have a typo. Go back and try again, or use Sign in with Apple or Google, which sign you in immediately without an email.
The link says it's invalid or expired
Sign-in links are single-use and time-limited. Opening one twice, or opening an old one, will fail. Request a fresh link.
If you've already confirmed on another device, Otterly checks with the server before showing an error — so if your account is fine, you'll be let in anyway.
I'm stuck on "check your inbox"
Your account exists but the address isn't confirmed yet. Either open the link, or sign in with Apple or Google instead — both verify instantly.
Lessons and progress
How do I unlock the next lesson?
Complete the one before it. Nodes on the path unlock in order, so each lesson builds on the last.
I've hit my daily limit
The free tier allows 5 lessons a day. It resets at midnight in your own timezone.
The limit is on how much you do per day, not on what you're allowed to reach — nothing is locked away permanently. Pro doesn't change it either: five a day is the same for everyone, paying or not.
My progress is missing
Progress is saved to your account, so it needs you to be signed in. If you did lessons before creating an account, they were saved on the device and may not have moved across.
If you're signed in and progress still looks wrong, email us with your username.
My streak reset and I did study
A day counts in your timezone, not the server's. If you travelled across timezones, the boundary may have moved under you. Tell us what happened and we'll look.
The AI tutor
How many messages do I get?
Free gives you 3 messages a day. Pro raises that to 50, or 25 each for everyone on a Family plan. The count is shown in the Otter tab.
It gave me a wrong answer
It can. It's a language model, and it's a study aid rather than an authority — check anything important against the course material. If it's badly wrong, tell us; it helps.
Pro and payment
What does Pro change?
Two things: more AI tutor messages (50 a day instead of 3) and profile customisation (avatar frames and colours on the leaderboard).
It does not unlock any content. Every course and lesson is free, and the five-lessons-a-day limit applies to Pro too. Pro buys more of Otterly's own tools, not access to the material.
How do I cancel?
iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Otterly → Cancel.
Cancelling stops future renewals. Pro stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for.
I paid and Pro didn't activate
Tap Restore Purchases on the paywall, or Profile → Settings → Restore Purchases. That re-checks with Apple.
If it still hasn't appeared after a minute or two, email us with the Apple receipt and we'll sort it.
I want a refund
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us — we're not able to issue them. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I changed phones
Sign in with the same method and your progress and Pro will follow you. If Pro doesn't, tap Restore Purchases.
Account
Change my name, username, or picture
Profile → Settings.
Delete my account
Profile → Settings → Delete Account.
It's immediate and irreversible: account, progress, streaks, leaderboard entries, tutor conversations, and avatar all go. Purchase records held by Apple aren't ours to delete.
Hide me from the leaderboard
There's no toggle yet. Only your username, display name, avatar, XP and league position are ever visible — never your email, answers, accuracy, or tutor conversations. If you'd rather not be identifiable, change your username to something anonymous in Profile → Settings.
Courses
Where does the content come from?
Adapted from openly licensed textbooks by OpenStax (Rice University) and the Texas Education Agency. Every course names its source and licence in the app, and every lesson credits the work it came from.
Why only one chapter per course?
That's where Otterly is today. Chapter 1 of nine courses, written properly, rather than nine whole books written thinly. More is coming.
A card looks wrong
Please tell us — hello@myotterly.xyz with the course and roughly where you saw it. Content errors get fixed quickly and we'd rather hear about them.
