Privacy Policy

Last updated 29 August 2026

This policy explains what Otterly collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the Otterly iOS app and myotterly.xyz.

Who we are

Otterly is operated by My Otterly, Kilimani, Nairobi, Kenya.

Questions, requests, or complaints: hello@myotterly.xyz

TimezoneSo a "day" means your day, not a server's

If you apply for a sponsored year

The lifetime plan funds a year of Pro for a student who can't pay. Applying for one is handled on myotterly.xyz, not in the app, and it asks for more than anything else here:

DataWhyHow long we keep it
Google account (name, email)To identify the applicationUntil the application is decided
Proof of study — student ID, admission letterTo check the application is genuineDeleted within 30 days, always
Questionnaire answersTo decide between applicationsUntil the application is decided

Proof-of-study documents are deleted permanently within 30 days of the application being decided, whether or not it succeeded. They are not used for anything else, not shared, and not retained as a record — the sponsorship record keeps only that a code was issued, never the document behind it.

If you'd rather not upload anything, ask your school or college whether they hold Otterly codes. A partner-issued code needs no documents from you at all.

We do not collect

  • No advertising identifiers. No IDFA, no ad SDK, no ad network.
  • No tracking across other apps or websites. None. We do not sell or share data with data brokers.
  • No analytics or crash-reporting SDK is integrated in this version.
  • No location data.
  • No contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera roll access beyond a picture you deliberately choose as your avatar.

How we use it

Only to run the app: to keep you signed in, save your progress, apply your daily limits, show the leaderboard, answer your tutor questions, deliver what you paid for, and send the daily reminder if you asked for one.

We do not use your data to train AI models. Your tutor messages are sent to a language model to produce an answer and stored so you can read the conversation back. They are not used as training data.

Who else sees it

Otterly runs on other companies' infrastructure. Each sees only what it needs.

ServiceWhat it handlesWhy
SupabaseAccount, progress, tutor messages, avatarsOur database and authentication
RevenueCatPurchase and subscription statusManages subscriptions across stores
ApplePayment, and your Apple ID if you use Sign in with AppleHandles all payment; we never see card details

We never sell your personal data.

Public information

Your username, display name, avatar, XP and league position are visible to other learners on the leaderboard. Nothing else is — not your email, your answers, your accuracy, your tutor conversations, or whether you pay.

If you would rather not appear, use a username that isn't your real name.

Children

Otterly is not directed at children under 13, and we ask for a birth year at sign-up. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, write to hello@myotterly.xyz and we will delete it.

Deleting your account

Profile → Settings → Delete Account, in the app. No email required, no support ticket.

Deletion is immediate and irreversible. It removes your account, profile, progress, streaks, leaderboard entries, tutor conversations, and avatar.

Two things survive, and you should know why:

  • Purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat. We cannot delete these; they are financial records the platforms are required to keep. If you resubscribe later, Apple may restore your purchase.
  • Anonymised billing events, retained for accounting. They no longer identify you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data, to object to processing, or to complain to a regulator.

Deletion is built into the app. For anything else, write to hello@myotterly.xyz.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit. Access to your rows is enforced at the database level, so one account cannot read another's. No system is perfectly secure, and we don't claim otherwise.

How long we keep things

Your data lives as long as your account does. Delete the account and it goes, subject to the two exceptions above.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we'll say so in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
